The challenge
Cape Adventure Brands specialises in outdoor adventure and activity tours in the Western Cape. It operates a portfolio of niche adventure brands offering experiences such as bike tours, kayaking, hiking, and more. Quintin Smith, co-founder of Cape Adventure Brands, entered the travel industry over 17 years ago when he founded bike tour operator Bikes ‘n Wines. Over time, the portfolio grew to include a wide range of activity operators under the umbrella of Cape Adventure Brands.
Brand visibility and networking are essential to the company’s success. However, at first, the only way Quintin could get new business was to “walk around a trade show with a really big bag full of brochures,” which meant expanding the brand’s reach was challenging.
The solution
Quintin wanted to promote his brand more actively and make information about his tours and activities more accessible. Recognising Wetu’s potential, he signed up over a decade ago, in line with the Cape Adventure Brands’ goal to “build strong partnerships with DMCs and agents to foster growth and strengthen our position as a leading adventure travel brand.”
“We’re selling dreams, not apples. People need to experience the product (the activity or hotel) through imagery, video content and accessible, up-to-date information before they decide to buy. Wetu enables us to have this content readily available at all times.”
Key outcomes
Since partnering with Wetu, Cape Adventure Brands has experienced the following benefits:
Enhanced brand exposure and networking: Cape Adventure Brands’ listing on Wetu has significantly boosted its market visibility and expanded its network. Quintin still travels to trade shows to make personal connections, but now, after these conversations, potential customers can access all Cape Adventure Brands’ activities, photos, and information on Wetu, which helps keep the company top of mind.
Wetu is also helping Cape Adventure Brands boost its brand awareness outside traditional in-person connections. “Wetu is making our product accessible to B2B clientele who we would not normally reach or who would not normally have the inclination to book our product because they don’t know about it,” Quintin says. “With Wetu, DMCs and agents can find and book our activities without needing to have a direct relationship with us,” he explains.
Improved performance tracking: Analysing data from Wetu and other sources enables Quintin to track the performance of Cape Adventure Brands’ activities and operators. “This helps me identify trends, spot high performers, and make data-driven decisions,” he says.
More efficient sales follow-ups with the Wetu Activity Leverage Report, “we can see every single operator who’s shown an interest in our products and cross reference that with our existing database,” Quintin notes. If the company is on their database, Cape Adventure Brands can follow up with them and offer them more information. “Or if we cross-reference the company names with our existing database and find companies we’ve never heard of before, we can reach out to them to introduce Cape Adventure brands,” he says.
Picture-perfect partnership: By teaming up with Wetu, Cape Adventure Brands has expanded its reach and enhanced its visibility, helping it connect with a broader range of clients and industry partners. Wetu supports Quintin’s ongoing commitment to building strong relationships while enabling seamless access to brand information and activity offerings.
